In honor of Filipino American History Month, Commonwealth & Boba Guys are collaborating on drinks and apparel to celebrate Filipino culture and heritage at the Family Style Food Festival in Los Angeles.
The first drink we've developed is Sapin Sapin, named after a steamed dessert made of glutinous rice flour, coconut milk, sugar and flavoring.
The drink is complex with different layers varying in color. The white represents the base flavor of coconut. Purple is for ube (purple yam). with yellow representing jackfruit. As a finishing touch, the Sapin Sapin drink is sprinkled with Latik, a delicious toasted coconut curd made from coconut milk.
As with the drink, we've translated the look of the Sapin Sapin dessert into the t-shirt's design. Custom dip-dyed to match the colors, with premium puff printing on the front and back.
The inspiration for our Kalamansi drink was drawn from calamansi juice, the “Filipino lemonade”. Similar to the traditional drink, Kalamansi consists of a very tart combination of lemon, lime, and orange, accompanied with slanted oolong jelly at the bottom corner of the bottle.
The Kalamansi tee is also custom dip-dyed to perfectly recreate its drink form, even down to the same slanted oolong jelly detail. Premium puff printed graphics complete the look, with dual branded Commonwealth and Boba Guys logos on the front.
If you're in Los Angeles, come celebrate Filipino American History Month with us and check out the Commonwealth x Boba Guys booth this Sunday. The Sapin Sapin and Kalamansi tees and drinks are exclusively available for this event so don't miss out!
